October 9th, World Post Day
World Post Day is celebrated on October 9th of each year.
The Universal Postal Union established the World Post Day in 1969. It was then that the first World Post Day was organized in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of this celebratory day is to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union which was founded in Bern, Switzerland in 1874.
This day is used to introduce and promote new postal products and services. Also on this day, countries organize philatelic exhibitions and special stamps and date cancellation marks are issued on. Post offices and postal museums around the world hold conferences, seminars and workshops as well as cultural, sport and other recreational activities.
